Neutrality itself is a choice, and one that often legitimizes the status quo by treating all perspectives as valid. I understand why it may seem advantageous for a publication to be “ideologically diverse” and represent all sides with an equal level of importance, but to achieve such a balance, I (and all of our very talented writers) would be required to surrender our deepest principles—something we are not willing to do. Thus, The Centurion chooses not to shy away from bias.
Such a claim certainly is bold, but it is one that needs to be stated. We have become far too comfortable as passive passengers in a system that works against us—told we are in the driver's seat, even as we are being thrown under the bus.
The stories from children and families being held "incommunicado" by our country’s immigration enforcement agencies, unable to communicate with family members or retaining attorneys before deportation carry a much heavier moral weight than that of the privileged upper one percent.
That’s a separate point from which stories deserve more attention—it’s about who gets a platform at all. A self-respecting publication will not allow just anyone to write an op-ed, and nor should they. Someone who believes in the Great Replacement does not deserve a megaphone, and anyone who runs a half-decent magazine (like this one) wouldn’t grant them one. They will instead attempt to mold public discourse into something that benefits us all, and that is where an editorial bias will start to peek through.
Instead of hiding ours, we choose to embrace it. However, that does not mean we will simply ignore the opposition—no. A good article acknowledges its counter-arguments and dissects them, giving every possible argument as to why it is presenting the correct take—something we will always strive to do.
But we may not always get it right, and that’s where you (the reader) come in. At the end of every article we publish, there is a button, which reads: “Disagree with our framing? Pitch a counter-perspective.” Our editors and I would love to hear from you, as our positions are constantly evolving, and that’s only possible when they’re put to the test.
